My son has been overtired for a couple days so today I made sure he got plenty of nap time. He managed 3 hours overall which is better than what he was having. I made sure he has had plenty of stimulation and play time too. So when it came to bed time i've set out a firm routine that we are going to follow every evening from now on;
1) 5.00pm - 6.00pm - Wind down play, play with toys in living room, no stimulation from mum or dad, tv on low, curtains closed.
2) 6.00pm - Bath time, warm bath followed by a massage in bedroom, night light on.
3) 6.30pm - Last bottle of the day, in bedroom with night light on, whilst mummy reads stories quietly. Wind and read some more stories.
4) 7.00pm - Sleep time, music on, baby in cot, night light off, leave to sooth self to sleep as much as possible.
How did the 1st night go? Up until step 4 it went brilliantly, then came sleep time. He went down quietly the 1st time but kept spitting his dummy out and loosing his comforter, so I tried to leave him for 2 minutes to soothe himself, but didnt work. So put his dummy back in without him noticing me, gave him his comforter and again the dummy comes out and he looses his comforter. And again I leave him for 4 minutes this time, without success. 15 minutes in and he starts crying so again I try the self sooth technique, at 7.30pm this time I go over so im out of view, give him his comforter and dummy and stroke his head a few times and walk away and he drifts off to sleep. I feel a slight victory tonight but we still have a long way to go. I will see how he goes over the night. Tired Mummy signing out for the night!
